2015: The Year of Colour
The magic of colour is undeniably captivating. The warm fuzzy feelings created by rainbows and sunsets have captivated my senses for as long as I can remember.
I've always been intrigued by the infusion of colour into the design and branding process. When working with branding clients, one of the first steps of brand building is the creation of mood boards and colour palettes. This is always my favorite part of the process, because it evokes the spirit of the brand and sets the tone for what's to come. For personal branding clients, these mood boards capture a glimpse of the client's brand personality, which is always a powerful exercise as it helps them create a palpable personality on paper.
During this process, I often sift through countless images to find the perfect glimpse of the client's brand-to-be. I found myself becoming wrapped up in certain images without a particular explanation as to why they gripped my senses so intensely.
So, I decided that 2015 will be a year of exploring colour, and of living life in full chroma. Letting the magical spectrum of life and beautiful images grab hold of me, embrace the way they make me feel, and capture that magic in a tangible way.
This lust for colour has led me to the creation of my most recent side project, #colourstudy, where I choose a gorgeous photo and extract its most prominent colours to create unique colour palettes.
So, what am I learning from #colourstudy? I'm learning not to be afraid of colour. It has so much magic to offer creative work and life in general. In short, the #colourstudy project is helping me to live more boldly and vibrantly.
Now it's your turn- do you have a photo that makes you come alive? Send it to me at hello@andreacrofts.com, and be a part of the project.
